Poetry and a Letter to my Sister
Sadly, my sister passed away from this world suddenly on June 20th of this year.
Nothing completely prepares us for death of a loved one, but with the support, love, and kindness of friends and family, our lives are better with them beside us.
I dedicate this poem to my sister, Cherie Tiffany.
once upon a time
my future unfolds
my family
pieces
on a broken tree
today
in a different time
or place
days sweep like a sundial
fading into yesterdays
hours slip into a fairy tale
that should’ve been
mine
until love
etches a new home
even if memories
call our names
Cherie and I shared many secrets, childhood trauma, and sorrows.
I spoke to her the night before her death and once again thanked her for helping me find a few of my missing memories. Memories I had hidden or forgotten from our chaotic youth. We spoke about how she was feeling a bit better after the horrible news of leukemia, and after the change to a different medicine to control the nausea. She sounded hopeful. This cancer was curable.
And she talked of traveling to Laurens again soon.
We never had the chance to say goodbye, but we did travel to Laurens, but much too soon. Because that is where she is now laid to rest with our mother and grandparents.
You will be missed, Cherie. Be at peace.
Laurens Iowa Cemetery where my mom, grandparents, and now my younger sister are buried.
RECOVERED MEMORIES
I don’t know how many memories she would have helped me recover if she had lived longer, but we had plans that were cut too short. I’m thankful for her kindness and her perspective.
If you haven’t already, take time to set your affairs in order, create a family trust, and secure your passwords, accounts, and wishes by making an estate plan with an attorney in your state. Love your family by helping them know what to do after you’ve gone from this life. And set your heart on Jesus, the author and creator of life. Make sure your plans for eternity are secure. This is the greatest gift you can give your family and yourself.

Love Poems
morning light hides
the veil of darkness
enters windows of a new reality
without him
without love
like feathers defying gravity
in a snow globe world
that rarely looks outside itself
we’re not meant to be alone
or lonely
ride winds of hope today
praying for love
after life

A Letter for our Families and Friends:
Dear Friends,
The past few years have been interesting to say the least.
Entering the spring and summer seasons of 2023, I hope you have found even the smallest of blessings and purpose through your struggles. I pray for God’s love to shower you with hope and courage to weather the storms in your corner of the world today.
As we enter each new season of wild-ranging and fluctuating circumstances, every unprecedented strangeness such as sink holes in Iowa farmland, ever-widening political divides, rising prices at the store, and rising tensions among young and old, I pray you find your foundation on the rock of all ages in Jesus Christ. For no other foundation in our heart can yield eternal hope.
It’s not easy standing when all around us shifts and waivers. Let’s live as if today might be our last, and stand tall amid the confusion and consuming rhetoric in our society. Be strong. Be encouraged.
May the present find us satisfied in the hope that is eternally promising with God today and forever.
Be Strong and Courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you whoever you go.
~Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
And may another of God’s promises become your song for today.
…I have loved you with an everlasting love.
~Jeremiah 31:3
