Poems on X: Griffonage On Empty Pages

Scribbling, Scrawling, and Scattered Thoughts - Part 6

by Patricia Tiffany Morris

Since I last posted on X, I laid poetry aside and began updating my website.

But I have several more poems to share with you this year.

This poem was one of my favorite experiences.

Not always is the experience sweet or pleasant. Sometimes the push and pull of words struggle with the act of creating a specific form or writing a prompt. Often I let structure form the narrative and find the theme or message.

But the word prompt, “griffonage,” conjured images of the pure mechanics and substance of writing itself.

How does the act of penning a poem create a painting of words?

Thanks for your encouragement to keep writing and creating and scribbling and scrawling your scattered thoughts.

Griffonage On Waiting Pages

Like swirling dust storms

on Oklahoma wheat fields,

my pen scribbles senselessly.

I tame the whirling endless thoughts—

the tangled rows within.

Ideas wait breathlessly

to fill my empty pages

until a story calls

like hungry children

begging for their turn.
