PRAYER CARD IDEA for CHRISTMAS GIFTS

Prayer Cards: How to Organize Prayers

by Patricia Tiffany Morris

(Revised & Republished from Mid 2019)

What do you do when someone you love has everything they need and won’t give you ideas?

Make them a simple prayer card ring and add a card with your prayer requests.

Or…

Have you ever struggled to manage all the social media friends, neighbors and church friends?

What about the people you meet in online FB groups?

Or what about the new writing group whose members asked for prayer in a scrolling list through twitter or instagram?

This idea might be just the organizational and inspirational tool they need. So, please share freely and copy this idea, adapting it for your specific situation, or copying it just as it is.

Here are the steps to organize those random, organic, and planned prayer commitments. Create one for yourself and for a gift this Christmas.

TOOLS NEEDED:

  • Blank Notecards 3x5 or 4x6 (any color or color coordinate each category)

  • Old Manilla File Folder (or cut up cardboard or cereal box covered in scrapbook paper or tissue paper)

  • Scissors

  • Stapler and Staples (Colored Staples are fun)

  • Colored Pencils or Markers

  • Hole Punch

  • Binder Ring (I found a metallic copper colored ring from my measuring cups)

  • Sharpie, or any black marker (For labeling tabs)

*******

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Mark the location of the tabs. Use a ruler or guess. This is your project. It doesn’t need to be perfect.

  2. Cut out the tabs after marking the third point, leaving a little room between each tab. (see photos).

  3. Color each tab and letter the heading in a manner you can sort and organize the groups for easier retrieval. ( I tried to color them to match my Bible Dividers.) You might color them to suit the person’s preference.

  4. Staple each header on a blank file card. I found some cool metallic staples in my craft room. Any old stapes will work. Just make certain you don’t have sharp edges on the back as you will be handling the cards as you pray.

  5. Puch a hole in each card. Lay the cards on the table and imagine how you would naturally flip the cards. Punch in the corner that make sense for your handedness. Left or right handedness, that is.

  6. Place on the ring in whatever order suits you.

  7. Now, pray. And keep praying. Pray continually, without ceasing!

Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NASB)
The Greek word for “without ceasing” in 1 Thessalonian 5:17 is adialeiptos, which doesn’t mean nonstop — but actually means constantly recurring. In other words, we can punctuate our moments with intervals of recurring prayer.

Happy Praying! Let me know how it goes. If you put together your own prayer ring, please send me a photo, and I’ll add it to this post.
