When Katherine launched her podcast, she told me I would have to be a guest and talk about the news of my 1st place win at Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference.

As a new writer, I was thrilled.

Inwardly, secretly, I hoped she would take a long time to get the podcast started and I wouldn’t have to worry about what to say.

Now, I’m not normally a bashful person. I love talking with other writers and creatives. As an introvert in hiding, and an eclectic artist and writer, I simply wasn’t sure how to narrow my rambling answers to fit within her allotted time.

Questions continued to roll through my mind. Would I forget to say something I wanted to share with other writers? How would I know if I talked too much about a particular question? Was Katherine supposed to ask me easy questions, or would she ask me something I hadn’t ever considered?

I knew so little of the writing industry. My educational training in architecture, engineering, art, and choreography gave me a foundation in the arts and science, but it had been decades since I wrote a story or poetry. In fact, the last time I wrote anything, the convention was to use two spaces between periods. That was one of the hardest habits to as a new writer.

The day arrived when we connected through the internet in the early 1990s. But I never dreamed of starting a career as an author and illustrator, but the thrill of doing an online interview with questions, and then later on Dr Katherine’s podcast encouraged my often fainting heart.

At the conclusion of the interview, I felt energized. Courage filled me. Dr. Katherine, a friend from the moment we met in 2019 at Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference, set me at ease, and asked thoughtful questions and insights I found invigorating and challenging.

I first met Patricia two years ago at Blue Ridge Mountains Christians Writer’s Conference, prior to her winning first place for the "Suspense Fiction" category at Blue Ridge 2021. I adore her stark bravery. She refuses to be stuffed into any one genre or category. She is an artist who writes poetry, suspense, literary fiction, children’s STEAM, and inspirational nonfiction. This incredibly diverse creative is someone to keep an eye on. She’s making a distinctive mark on our generation as a uniquely gifted artist, defying the confines of artistry, by coloring outside the lines of tradition.

Upon first meeting Patricia, I found she had a quirky sense of humor (which I super love). Secondly, she openly laughed at my clever and witty jokes. I thought about sneaking her home in my suitcase to show my family my career as a comedian wasn’t a complete pipedream.

But in all seriousness, I find Patricia to be one of the most unassuming people one could meet. Yet, she is full of humility, whimsical talent, wisdom, and creativity. Also, it’s not often you meet someone who operates with a strong left and right brain. She proves you can have it all! Admittedly, I’m slightly jealous and I do need to pray about issues with envy since meeting Patricia. But that’s for another conversation.
