Whether we write a title in black ink for a planner page or hand-letter a list of things to do for the day, we have the marvelous opportunity to infuse color and beauty into the mundane tasks that help us stay focused and engaged with each day’s responsibilities.

We can do this manually, by hand in a traditional planner or bullet journal, or digitize titles with specialty fonts and computer lettering.

Either way, isn’t it tempting to color your workspace especially in this dark world?

But what if you believe you are not artistic? Or you don’t know where to begin?

Follow this series of ideas and inspiration to splash some color, creativity, and life into the space you call home and work.

Idea #1

DIGITAL SCREENSAVERS:

Screensavers are here to stay. Since we have devices and apps that power our calendars and phones, we can beautify these devices. Phones, tablets, computers, and watches have home screens and screensavers often referred to as wallpaper.

Have you ever thought of decorating your devices like we color our homes?

Why not add some artsy swagger to your devices and splash that screen with colorful images that reflect your personality and bring a hefty dose of hope into your workspace?

In the very least, adding a photo from your camera roll is your first line of attack, but what else can you add to give variety and display your personality and interests?

Digital art is plentiful online. You can find it everywhere.

Loads of Etsy sellers host digital art downloads and sell volumes of products tailored specifically for different screen sizes.

Writers and entrepreneurs offer free art and classes to show you how to create your own memes and graphics.

Canva, Typorama, and other apps provide marvelous platforms to experiment and create art and screensavers in addition to social media post images. You can add personal verses, quotes, and original sayings to create art that can be gifted or printed as greeting cards.

Here is what you may need to know before downloading clip art or images to use on your own devices:

  1. First. Most importantly. Please verify the download is safe by installing a reputable antivirus program as protection for your devices. Reputable download sites that have a padlock in the search bar on their website address. But research. Research again.

  2. Look at the proportions of your device. Is it square? Vertical or horizontal? Art or images that are similar proportions will work best and not cut off part of the image if that is important to you.

  3. Check the settings of your device to find out what specific dimensions you need for your wallpaper or home screen. Settings can be found in the about section of many devices. You can locate the specifications at the manufacturer’s website.

  4. Remember that you can use any size of art provided the portion that might be cut off doesn’t bother you. But make sure the resolution is sufficient. For a small digital device, 72 DPI might work, but I suggest downloading an image at the resolution you are considering and try it out before purchasing. Although if the image is at 300 DPI, you can be certain it will work on screens up to around 21” and sometimes larger.

Well, that’s it for today. Enjoy decorating your device screens!
